Kids who play Fortnite usually ask me for the skins first, and then they discover how hard all those outfits and gear are to draw. So I steer them toward the loot llama instead. Below you'll learn how to draw the Fortnite llama step by step, from a plain rectangle to a purple piñata with rows of paper fringe. I chose the llama for this Fortnite lesson because it's the friendliest thing in the game: no weapons, no complicated costume, just a happy party animal made of boxes and ovals. This is my own simple fan-art version for practice, not official game art.

Gray lines in each picture are from earlier steps, and blue ones are what you add right now. Compare your page with the blue parts before moving on.

Llama Supplies From Your Pencil Case
- A pencil you can press lightly
- An eraser that doesn't smudge
- A black marker or fineliner
- Purple plus a darker purple for the far legs and hooves
- Pink, light blue and yellow for the fringe
- A ruler, only if you want a straighter body box
Any printer paper works here, and holding it sideways leaves room for the tail on the left.
How to Draw the Fortnite Llama Step by Step
Step 1: Draw a ground line and a body box

Start near the bottom of the page with a long, light line for the ground. Above it, leave a gap about half as tall as the box you're about to draw, then sketch a wide rectangle a little left of center. That rectangle is the llama's body. The gap underneath is where the legs will go.
💡 Tip: Make the box roughly two and a half times wider than it is tall. Square boxes turn the llama into a pig.
Step 2: Add neck, head and leg guides

From the top right corner of the box, draw two lines leaning slightly forward for the neck, about as tall as the box itself. Put a circle on top for the head and a smaller oval sticking out to the right for the snout. Next come two short lines for the ears and four straight lines down to the ground, two under each end of the body.
💡 Tip: Overlap the snout oval with the head circle. If they only touch, the face looks like two balloons tied together.
Step 3: Draw the rounded body and tail

Now trace over the box with a firmer line, but round off all four corners generously. Piñatas are stiff paper boxes, so keep the top and bottom fairly flat. On the left end, add a little oval tail tilted upward, tucked partly behind the body.
💡 Tip: Round the corners with one smooth curve each instead of lots of tiny strokes.
Step 4: Draw the long neck and head

Follow your neck guides from the body up to the head, letting the neck get a touch narrower at the bottom. Then go around the head circle and continue into the snout, so the outline becomes one shape with a bump at the back and a long rounded nose. Leave out the lines where the head and neck overlap.
💡 Tip: I draw the snout's top edge almost flat. A sloping nose makes it look more like a horse.
Step 5: Add two tall ears

Use the ear guides to draw two long, thin ovals pointing up from the top of the head. Tilt them apart a little, like a V. Draw the one in front first, then the back ear, stopping where it hides behind the first. A thin oval inside each one marks the pink inner ear.
💡 Tip: Ears that are longer than the snout is tall read as llama. Short round ears read as bear.
Step 6: Draw four short legs

Turn each pair of leg guides into two chunky rectangles with rounded feet. The front leg of each pair should hang slightly lower and sit a bit forward, while the leg behind it peeks out to the left. Finish with a straight line across each foot to show the hooves.
💡 Tip: Keep the legs short and thick. Long skinny legs make the toy look like a real animal and lose the piñata feel.
Step 7: Add a little saddle blanket

On the middle of the back, draw a rectangle that hangs down over the side with rounded bottom corners. It should cover about a third of the body's length. Then add one line across it near the bottom edge, which becomes the colored trim later.
💡 Tip: Place the blanket slightly closer to the neck than the tail. Centered exactly, it looks like a sticker.
Step 8: Draw the paper fringe bands

Here's the fun part. Draw a straight line across the lower body, then underneath it a row of small bumps, like a line of upside-down hills. Repeat with two more rows of bumps below. Add two shorter rows on the neck and a simple stripe across each front leg. Honestly, this step takes patience, and younger kids can stop at one row.
💡 Tip: Keep every bump about the same size. Uneven scallops look like waves instead of cut paper.
Step 9: Draw a big eye and a happy smile

Place a big oval eye where the head circle meets the snout, then a round pupil pushed toward the front with a small shine dot left empty. Add a tiny nostril at the very tip of the nose. Below the eye, draw a little cheek oval and a wide curved smile running toward the nose.
💡 Tip: Most beginners put the eye too far back on the head. Nudging it forward toward the snout makes the face friendlier.
Step 10: Ink the lines and erase the guides

Go over every keeper line with a black marker. I ink the face first, since a shaky eye is hard to hide, then the outline, and the fringe last. Skip the box, the circles and the straight guide lines. When the ink is dry, erase all the pencil underneath.
💡 Tip: Ink the fringe bumps one row at a time from left to right, so your hand doesn't drag through wet lines.
Step 11: Color your llama

Fill the body, neck, head, ears and the two nearest legs with purple. The two legs on the far side and all four hooves get a darker purple, which pushes them back. The blanket, the top neck row, the middle body row, the inner ears and the cheek are pink. Use light blue for the top body row and the leg stripes, then yellow for the bottom row, the second neck row and the blanket trim.
💡 Tip: Color the fringe rows before the purple body. Light colors are easy to fix, and purple can cover a small slip.
Spots Where a Piñata Llama Turns Into a Horse
- A short neck. With a stubby neck the llama turns into a sheep. Make it about as tall as the body is high.
- A pointy snout. A narrow, sloping nose looks like a horse or a donkey. Keep it blunt and rounded at the end.
- Fringe drawn as zigzags. Sharp points look like teeth. Rounded bumps read as soft paper fringe.
- All four legs the same. When the far legs match the near ones, the llama looks flat. Shift them left a little and color them darker.
- Too many colors. Ten different shades make it look messy. Stick to purple plus three fringe colors.
Twists on Your Loot Llama Drawing
Once your first llama is done, change the fringe colors to match a birthday party, or draw a small pile of colorful stars and coins spilling out around its feet. You could also give it a party hat between the ears or a second baby llama standing beside it. Llama Drawing Questions From Young Gamers
What is the easiest thing to draw from Fortnite?
The loot llama is one of the easiest, because it's mostly a box, a neck and a head. Simple items like a supply drop or a slurp juice bottle are good starters too.
How do you draw the Fortnite llama for kids?
Start with a rectangle for the body and a circle for the head, then add tall ears and short legs. Small kids can skip two of the fringe rows and still get a recognisable llama.
What colors is the Fortnite llama?
It's mainly purple, with bright fringe in colors like pink, blue and yellow. My version uses those four plus a darker purple for the far legs.
How long does it take to draw the llama?
Plan on about 20 minutes for the drawing and 15 for the coloring. The fringe rows take the longest, so don't rush them.
Grab your purple pencil and give your llama the brightest fringe you can find in your pencil case. 🦙🎉
