Dollar Store Hanging Planter Makeover
I heart the Dollar Store. When I go to the Dollar Store, I spend some serious time there going down each and every aisle. I can't remember the last time I just 'popped in real quick'. I love checking out all of their goodies because I have been known to do a Dollar Store craft or two. :)
This time around, I left the Dollar Store with a black wire hanging basket. I figured with it being so plain, that I needed to add a pop of color to it. After thinking it through for a bit, I decided to wrap my basket with yarn! I picked three different colors of yarn to decorate my basket. When I was finished, I popped in one of plants and hung it on my back porch. However, you could totally use this as a super fun fruit bowl! This really is an easy project. All you need is yarn and scissors!
Have you ever done a dollar store craft before?
Here what you'll need:
- Dollar Store Plant Hanger
- Red Heart Yarn (Mint, White, Royal Blue)
Let's get crafty!
Unravel all three colors of yarn. You want to make sure you have a generous amount to wrap around your entire basket.
Create small yarn balls with all three colors of yarn. This will make the wrapping process much easier!
Grab your first color of yarn and tie a double knot around the top of one of the basket's wires.
You will move the the next wire and wrap your yarn around it (this is the same technique you would use to create a God's eye).
Keep wrapping your basket with your first color. I used my fingers to move my yarn closer to the prior row. This helped keep my design nice and tight.
Continue wrapping until you decide you want to move on to the next color.
Tie a double knot around the wire where you attach your yarn to start your first color.
Grab your next color of yarn and tie a double knot over the wire next to the prior knot you just tied.
Continue wrapping your basket with this color until you decide you are finished. Add your next color of yarn and continue wrapping. You will continue alternating colors until you get to the bottom of your basket. When you get to the bottom with your last color of yarn, you will tie a double knot to secure it.
When you are finished with your basket, you can add the chain back to it and hand it up! NOTE: I did put a pot with a plant inside of my basket. I did not actually add dirt to it.
You could keep the chains off and place your basket on a table...
...or a plant stand!
