How to Create Mixed Media Quote Art

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft has made it easier than ever to try mixed media for the first time, or if you are an experienced mixed media artist, to try out new techniques. Combine one of the many color options with one of the varied textured mediums and apply the products using tools designed to create a unique project every time. It really is as simple as 1, 2, 3! Check out the video and steps below to create your own piece of mixed media artwork.

Step 1: Apply gesso to a piece of mixed media paper or board. Speed up drying time with a heat tool.

Step 2: Once dry, scribble randomly at the top and bottom of your surface using a variety of Gelatos.

Step 3: Using water and a paint brush, blend Gelatos.

Step 4: Position desired quote stencil in place and use a pencil to lightly trace the letters.

Step 5: Fill in the letters using PITT Artist Pens. Try coloring them in, adding a texture or trace over script words to practice your hand lettering.

Step 6: Using the black, fine point PITT Artist Pen, outline and accent your design.

Step 7: Apply a bit of Gelato to your craft mat or an acrylic block and use a brush and water to apply it to your surface.

Step 8: Choose a patterned stencil, position as desired and apply Texture Luxe Metallic Paste using a small palette knife or your finger.

Step 9: Once dry, add more line details where desired and hang!

By combining several products from the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft line, I was able to create a simple, layered work of quote art that looks much more complex than it actually is. Also, experimenting with all of these crafty goodies also taught me some new techniques and product knowledge along the way!

Happy Crafting!
