Using Acryl Mousse

Marabu Acryl Mousse is a lightweight acrylic paste available in soft colors for subtle textured effects. It is soft, water-based and has an airy chalk appearance ideal for stenciling and use with other Marabu products for creating colorful texture in a variety of ways. Here I paired it with Marabu Art Crayons and Art Stencils. The stencils are made of a durable plastic and the sizes and imagery have been specifically designed to work well in mixed media projects.

Follow along with the video above and steps below to create your own textured artwork.

Step 1: Scribble onto panel using two or more Marabu Art Crayons.

Step 2: Use water and a brush to dilute and blend the crayons creating a softer background.

Step 3: Position stencil as desired on panel.

Step 4: Apply a generous amount of Acryl Mousse on top of the stencil and use a palette knife to carefully smooth it out using long, slow strokes.

Step 5: Carefully peel away stencil and allow mousse to dry. You can speed up drying time by using a heat embossing tool.

Step 6: Once the mousse is completely dry, use Marabu crayons to color in areas of the raised image.

Step 7: Using water and a brush, blend colors. Add more water for a softer look.

Step 8: Allow to completely dry and display!

Acryl Mousse can be applied without a stencil as well. For a sandy, grainy texture that adds dimension to mixed media, simply apply as thickly or thinly as you'd like. And try some of the other hues for a subtle dose of color!

Happy Crafting!
