Stenciled Scrapbook Background Tutorial

Posted by Kate Kennedy
Add a bold statement to your scrapbook layout by creating a graphic stenciled background. For the most impact use black heavy body acrylic paint or black texture past.

I am super into black & white! Stripes, polka dots, hearts, text … I like it all! Using a stencil or template to create a bold, graphic statement to a piece of plan card stock is a wonderful foundation for any photo. This concept can be completely tailored to your style, photograph, or album. By using a different stencil and/or medium you can create all sorts of beautiful background papers. I think it would be fun to create several of these at one time so when the right event comes along you can create a whole album. It will be very cohesive since all the backgrounds are stencils but you can mix up the paper and embellishments to suit the story you are telling. For this layout I used a stencil called The Story from Crafters Workshop. I chose this stencil because it looks very handmade. I love the mix of dots, arrows, stripes, and it even has text and numbers. I decided to mask off the sentiment and the numbers using some washi tape. The Golden Bone Black Heavy Body Acrylic Paint really makes a graphic bold background paper. Adding a few layers of patterned paper and simple embellishments and this layout was done. It came together very quickly and I love the result. To see the entire process please watch the video below. Thanks so much for stopping by and I would love to know how you make a bold statement on your layouts?
