Feature Friday: Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom

Check out our interview with Jamie of Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom.

Welcome back to Blitsy's Feature Friday! This week we chatted with Jamie of Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom. Read through our interview to learn about how she got her start in DIYing and what inspires her!

Tell us about Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom and how you got started.
I've always loved sewing, cooking and crafting and had been a blog reader for years. After leaving my job to stay home with my children, I was busy; but definitely had more time to focus on my hobbies (and post pictures to facebook.) I eventually began to feel like I might be annoying my facebook friends and probably needed to find another outlet for talking about (and showing off) what I was doing. So... I started a blog!

How did you get started in crafting?
All through high school, I worked in a souvenir shop. (I grew up on an island on the Texas coast.) This souvenir shop sold everything under the sun from custom painted t-shirts to hand crafted shell jewelry and trinkets to fudge. My favorite part of this job was getting creative with the fudge recipes (jalapeno fudge anyone?) and making the jewelry, hair accessories and other knick knacks using sea shells and hot glue. The love of creating, sharing and learning new skills continues to grow, most recently I've been learning pattern drafting and now have over 33 printable pdf sewing patterns available for free download. (In all, I have almost 200 sewing and craft tutorials on my blog.)

What is your favorite project that you have done so far and why?

How can I pick just one? ;) A couple of my recent favorites are: Rainbow Zipper Pouch (made completely of zippers), Decorative Washi Tape Storage/Holder (got to show off that washi collection!) and a 10 Minute No Sew Skirt.

Where do you get most of your inspiration for your projects?
I get my inspiration from what's going on in my life. I kind of just do what I what to do, when I want to do it. (Weather warming up? Time to sew a new dress for my daughter and why don't I make a multi sized pattern to go with it! Father's day coming up, create something our dad will love and share it with others!)

What is your biggest #craftfail?
My biggest craft fail is probably all the unfinished projects sitting around my craft room, lol! (Though I did once try to tint mason jars in the oven with modge podge and paint--total failure.)

What is your biggest crafting pet peeve?
My messy craft room, finding my expensive sewing scissors in the children's play room and not being able to find that object or supply that was in my hand, NOT FIVE MINUTES AGO!

You're experienced in all craft mediums. What do you love the most and why?
I love sewing , especially quick and easy projects. I often refer to my style of sewing as "instant gratification". (Who says easy can't be cute?) In my mind, there's nothing better than spending a few hours at the sewing machine and creating something my children will love and will wear!
