Today is the official start to the Summer season. Woo Hoo!!!! I am super excited to welcome Summer back to Chicago. Summertime is one of the best seasons here in Chicago. It means street festivals, outdoor concerts, time at the lakefront, and summer crafting projects.
When Summer rolls around you start to see more pineapples, flamingos, and everything tropical. All of these make me so happy. You know I have a pineapple obsession and a love all of things tropical. Since it's finally the season to really embrace all of my favorite things, I thought I would create a bright, cheery card using cutting dies for paper. I grabbed Spellbinder dies in different Summer designs from flamingos to tropical leaves. I paired my die cuts with foam squares to create a card the has depth and dimension. If you don't want to make a card with these dies, you could use them to create a fun Summer garland, a layered home decor piece, or add them as extra detail to a place card!
Here's How to Create Your Own Summer Flamingo Card
Step 1: Die cut the flamingo body on a bight pink piece of paper and the wing on a lighter pink paper. Die cut the legs on light tan paper. Die cut just the flamingo head on orange paper.
Step 2: Cut out the orange beak and glue on top of your pink flamingo body. Use a black marker to color in the flamingo eye.
Step 3: Die cut the tropical leaves (in different sizes) on light and dark green paper.
Step 4: Die cut flowers on yellow, orange, and pink paper.
Step 5: Cut a panel out of patterned scrapbook paper.
Step 6: Glue the legs to your panel and then glue the flamingo body on top.
Step 7: Begin gluing your tropical leaves on the bottom of the card, overlapping light green and dark green.
Step 8: Add a foam square behind the flower cut-outs and add it on top of the solid flowers you die cut.
Step 9: Glue your flowers on top of your leaves.
Step 10: Add a foam square behind your smaller tropical leaves and add them to your panel.
Step 11: Flip your panel over and cut off any excess paper hanging over the edge.
Step 12: Glue your panel to your cardbase.
Step 13: Add your sentiment.
If Summer is your favorite season, it's time to celebrate it with a card that pops. You can easily create a card with cutting dies made for paper. These dies will give you designs like flamingos, tropical leaves and flowers in seconds! So, what are you waiting for? Get crafting!
