Kids Craft Idea: Make a Cute Custom Wand!

Posted by Chrissie Tobas
Looking for something fun to create with your child? Learn how to make an easy wand that's fit for royalty.

I've seen fairly expensive kits and wands in the store and I was determined to make my own, while cutting the costs!!!

So, while in the process of making this project, my daughter and I decided to film a crafty video together. There is nothing more that I love than crafting with her, so this was a real treat (she's pretty determined when it comes to crafting)! We painted the dowel rods ahead of time. I purchased a long one and then used some scissors to cut it down. I used sandpaper to file it, so the edges were nice and smooth. Then, she painted them all using acrylic paint and foam brushes.

You can see an 'action shot' of her working diligently below!

We let them dry and then got started! We die cut a few different things: Butterflies, Circles and hearts and then got to decorating them. As we were creating, I made a mental note that this would be a great craft for a kid's birthday party! You can die cut everything ahead of time and have all the supplies ready!

I colored in the dragon with some colored pencils and then let my daughter create the other two. She stamped a cupcake and a rolling pin one one. For the other, there wasn't much room to stamp, so she added as much bling as humanly possible! :)

Supplies You'll Need:

Dowel Rod (I cut ours into 3 pieces, about 8.5 inches long)
Lawn Fawn Baked with Love set, Critters Ever After set, Quinn's ABCs Lowercase set
Lawn Fawn Circle Stackables and Scalloped Circle Stackables dies
Die'Sire Dancing Butterfly dies
Die'Sire Hearts dies
Acrylic Paint (purple, pink and aqua)
Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
Foam Brushes
Acrylic Blocks
Cardstock (various colors)
Colored pencils (Spectrum Noir Blendable pencils 044, 041, 013, 003)

I hope you enjoy! And that you give it a try, too! If you do, share it in our Inspiration Section. I'd love to see what you create!!!! Happy Crafting!
