Here's what you'll need:
- 30" silver 2mm cable chain
- Lobster clasp
- 4 - 6mm silver jump rings
- 1 - 10mm silver jump ring
- Jewelry head pin
- 12 inches 18-gauge silver plated wire
- Assorted beads - Jesse James Aquarius Collection
- 3-5 Bead Caps
- Round Nose Pliers
- Chain Nose Pliers
- Flush Cutters
To create the vertical look, we'll be making a few charms and connectors. Begin with the bottom charm by stacking an oval or teardrop shaped bead onto a jewelry head pin. Optionally, you can add a filigree bead cap to the bottom to give it a more finished look. Grip the head pin with your round pliers just above the bead, and wrap the pin around one side of your pliers to create a loop.
Next, wrap the wire end around the pin under the loop in neat coils until the space between the loop and the top of the bead is filled. Trim any excess wire away with your flush cutters.
Cut a 6-inch length of wire, and about 2 inches from the end, form a loop, just as you did in the previous steps. Wrap the wire and trim the excess. Connectors are made just the same way as beaded charms, except they have loops at both the top and bottom, instead of just the top.
Add a bead to the wire, and finish the opposite end the same way as you finished your charm, creating a second loop.
Connect the beads together using 6mm jump rings, and add a 10mm jump ring to the top of the upper most bead.
Cut 30" on chain, and string the drop pendant onto it. Attach the lobster clasp to the end of the chain to finish the necklace.
This minimalist style is great for all your casual outfits, and can be layered along with shorter pieces if you like! And just like all DIY jewelry, you can add any kinds of components you like to the vertical design to suit your taste and style.
