This easy DIY Tassel Statement Necklace will bring any outfit to the next level! Create your own statement necklace in less than 20 minutes!

I am a huge fan of bright, bold colors, which really is no secret. In my opinion, the brighter the better! I was looking through our stash of embroidery floss the other day and noticed some seriously bright floss. Like a moth to a flame, I was totally drawn to them!

I started brainstorming ideas on how to use my colorful floss and was thinking I would maybe embroider a bag, or even embellish a fun felt coaster. As I thought about how I wanted to incorporate my floss, I decided I really just wanted to wear it. I basically just wanted to drape myself in color! Instead of literally wrapping my body in bright floss, I thought it would be best to tone it down a bit and incorporate floss into a necklace (this is way more socially acceptable!). I ended up going with a very simple necklace design. I took some dark wooden beads and strung them on some clear elastic cord. To add my "pop of color", I wanted to have brightly colored tassels dangling from my wooden bead necklace. I thought the floss would pair beautifully with my dark beads. Tassels are super easy to make and can be very addicting. Okay, you have been warned! What I love about this necklace is it can be paired with a white t-shirt or even a plain black maxi dress for a dramatic impact. This is why I love statement necklaces; they can jazz up any plain outfit!

What colors of embroidery floss would you use with your wooden beads? Would you stick with one color or do multiple colors like I did?

Here's what you'll need:

  • Embroidery Floss
  • Wooden Beads (these smaller wooden beads would also work!)
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard
  • Sretch Magic Jewlery Cord

Let's get crafty!

Cut a piece of jewelry cord that is 24 inches long. Begin stringing your beads.

Once you have reached your desired necklace length, tie a double knot two times. If you really want to secure your knot, add a bit of E600 glue to the knot.

Cut a piece of cardboard that is 2.5 inches wide and 2.25 inches long. Begin wrapping your floss around your cardboard. Wrap all of your floss around your cardboard, leaving 12 inches of floss (you will use this excess to wrap around your tassel).

Wrap a piece of floss around the center of your tassel and tie a knot.

Find the center of your tassel on the back and cut it.

Wrap another piece of floss around your tassel about 3/8 inch down.

Trim your tassel down so it measures 2 inches.

Repeat the above steps for your remaining tassels.

Find the center of your necklace and tie on a tassel.

Trim the ends of your tassel.

I ended up adding a total of 7 tassels to my necklace. I evenly spaced them out leaving about an inch between each tassel.

When you are finished you will be left with a gorgeous and colorful statement necklace perfect for the Summer!
