DIY Stitched Coaster

I was thinking the other day about the different craft projects I have done (both on my personal blog and on Blitsy) and realized I have never made coasters! That's right, out of the countless projects I have done, none have been coasters! Well, I thought it was about time I changed that. DIY coasters, here I come!

To create my coasters, I used piping, yarn, and felt. I went with yarn because I wanted to add a colorful design to the plain white piping. You can pick your favorite color(s) of yarn and customize your coasters to match your living room, or any room you want to place your coasters in. Let's get started!

Here's what you'll need:

  • Piping Cord
  • Yarn (I used two colors)
  • Sharp Needle
  • Felt
  • Glue Gun and Glue
  • Scissors

Let's get crafty!

Cut the end off of your piping. Wrap the end with a piece of tape. Then, trim the end down so you have about 1/8 of tape left on your cord.

Put glue on the end of your piping and fold it in. Continue adding glue to your piping and wrapping it in a circle.

Once you have a diameter of about 4 inches, cut your cord, add tape to the end, and trim it down. Then, add a little glue to the end of your cord to keep it from fraying.

Decide on a pattern for your coaster and begin adding your yarn. Keep going up and down over your piping until you have completed your design.

Cover the back of your coaster with glue and place it on your felt.

Use your scissors to trim around the bottom of your coaster, removing the excess felt. Now, grab a glass or mug and give your coaster a try.
