If you are obsessed with colored pencils, you know keep track of your collection(s) can be quite difficult. You keep ordering more and more, because who can resist?

Since keeping track of your pencils is not the easiest, why not keep them safe in a DIY pencil holder? That's right, you can customize a wooden box to match your craftroom decor. You could also make one for yourself and one for a crafty friend. I used adhesive vinyl on my pencil holder so I can label what's inside. If I decide to add markers to my holder, I can change the label since I can erase my vinyl!

How would you decorate your pencil holder?

Here's what you'll need:

  • Mulitcraft Wooden Pencil Holder
  • Paper Accent Adhesive Vinyl
  • 2 Pieces of Scrapbook Paper (I used a striped design and a floral design)
  • Pencil
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint and Paint Brush
  • Scissors
  • La-La Land Crafts Dies Rolled Rose Set and Tag Die
  • Pink Cardstock
  • Quilling Tool and Glue
  • Gold Chalk Marker

Let's get crafty!

I traced all four sides of my holder as well as the top onto my striped paper. I cut out my papers and reduced them in size by a 1/4 inch. This was so I could see the paint on my pencil holder.

I painted the outside of my box along with the removeable top with yellow paint.

When my glue was dried, I added Mod Podge to the back of my papers and glued them to the sides and top of my holder.

While my glued dried, I cut out my three flowers with my die cutting machine. I used my quilling tool to roll my flowers, and then I glued them in place.

I also used my die cutting machine to cut out my tag on adhesive vinyl.

I grabbed my floral paper and cut out a few floral designs.

I added Mod Podge to the back of my floral paper and glue it to the side of my pencil case. I then glued one of my rolled paper flowers to the top of the design to add some dimension. I repeated this until I had added three flower designs on each (long) side of my box. I also trimmed of the excess paper I had hanging over the edge.

For my cover, I added my vinyl tag to the center and then added my floral paper along with three of my rolled flowers. I finished my pencil holder by adding "Pencils" to my vinyl with a metallic chalk marker. Now my pencil have a pretty home and I will never lose them again!
