I gathered all my supplies, including inks, stamps and all the fun goodies! You can certainly use a larger mason jar for this project if you'd like a bigger "mini" album. I loved the smallness of this idea. I actually found this idea on Pinterest (kj-starre.blogspot.com is the blog where it was pinned from). I loved it instantly. You can definitely do this for any holiday, birthday, or any special occasion to store your little album in a creative and decorative way.
The first thing to do for this project I did was I created a base that will fit into the bottom of the mason jar. This way, I can adhere my elements in there without them moving around too much. It will make sense when we get to that part.
I cut out 8 circles with my circle dies out of the Shimmering Cardstock, after all, it's a winter theme inside, so we want something to mimic that. After I cut them all apart, I glued them together in a stack.
This is what you'll have when you're all glued together. A nice little base. All about that base, 'bout that base...okay, I'll stop ;)
Next is to create something for our little scene in the jar. I wanted to use this adorable little reindeer to sit atop my mini sled that is inside. So I started by stamping him onto my cardstock. Since it is a Christmas album after all, he needed a Santa hat. I stamped that on to my cardstock as well as stamping it onto a sticky note. You'll see that in the above photo. We are going to create a mask for the hat so that when we stamp the reindeer, it will look like it was one stamped image! This is my favorite technique.
What I with my stamped hat on the sticky note was I trimmed it out as closely as possible to the stamped edges. This creates the best looking mask when you take a little time to trim this out precisely. After you cut that out, place it directly on top of your stamped hat on the cardstock. Now, you're ready to stamp your reindeer.
Get your reindeer stamp on your block and ink him (or her) up. Carefully position it where you want it over the hat image. This is the greatest thing about the clear stamps - you can see what you're doing! It makes masking these things a cinch. After lining it up, stamp it. If you're unhappy with it, you can start over. Just hang on to your mask for the hat and you can make this over again.
*Note: If the sticky on the back of your mask wears off, you can always use a removable adhesive on the back!
Here is what it will look like when you stamp your reindeer over the masked hat.
And here is the final stamped image with the mask removed! Isn't that awesome?
Now I colored the image, added some glittery touches with my Wink of Stella Pen and a little black rhinestone for the nose. I then fussy cut this out.
I used glue dots to adhere the tiny tree and sleigh to the circle base I created in the beginning. As you can see, I also added a little piece of scored cardstock behind the reindeer so he could sit upright all the time. Just used a little scrap piece and some adhesive. Now I'm ready to carefully place this inside the jar.
Here is what it looks like placed inside the jar. I added some white sequins and snowflake sequins to the bottom of the jar as well for some fun.
Here is a bird's eye view of the inside of the jar! You'll see I glued everything towards the front half of the circle. This will allow my mini album to sit right behind that.
For the insert of the lid, I cut out several circles to adhere to it. I wanted the JOY to be on the top and I layered the other two together and adhered to the back of the lid insert. I used a Wink of Stella pen over the letters to give them some glittery fun.
Here is what the top of the jar looks like! For a pop of color and interest, I inked up a large wooden word (PEACE) with the Memento Luxe in Love Letter, let that dry and tied some red and white twine around the jar and weaved it through the PEACE word. I also tied on an ornament and candy cane from the Joyful diecuts package. I love this added detail. You'll see it up close in a little bit!
Now, let's get on to the actual album...
This is the mini! I love the tiny size. I think I'll be using this album to take photos this year of some favorite Christmas ornaments of ours that have special meaning to us. We love ornaments!
The album measures 2" wide by 3-1/2" tall. I used a simple olive colored jump ring to hold the album closed. Here are the remainder of the pages of the album...
So, how fun is that?? I loved putting this all together and this will now become a part of our holiday decorations that I will smile every year I get to put this out. Just a really cool way to display and store a holiday mini album!
I'll show you some more images of the album, jar, and everything together!
