Get organized and inspired in 2016 with this adorable DIY desk caddy. Learn how to make it yourself now.
With the New Year upon us, it's time to get organize and break out that long list of New Year resolutions! If you're like me, you may love making lists, but making a New Year's resolution list is a bit more daunting. A few years ago, I started reading about how people were choosing certain words, to represent what they wanted to accomplish in the New Year. For example, someone's word for the New Year might be ''Purpose''. To them this could mean, living on purpose, finding their purpose, etc.
I really love this whole concept of choosing a word to inspire your actions for the New Year. However, remembering that particular word that you chose, on a day to day bases, is a different story. I mean let's be honest, most of us probably forget our resolutions after the first month!
So to stay inspired all year, I thought it would be fun to create a project that combines New Year organization and inspiration!
Today's project is an Inspiring Desk Caddy!
Now if you didn't know, Blitsy has a wonderful assortment of wooden items that can help you get organized and (of course) be decorated! One of those wooden items, is desk caddies. The desk caddy I'm using in today's project, has two slots and measures 5.5 x 6.5 x 3 inches. It's really the perfect size to be on a desk because it's not too big, but can still hold a good amount of stuff. I'm using the taller version, however there is also a shorter version available.
When making this project, the only thing you have to be cautious about is the size of your wooden letters. You want to make sure that you buy smaller wooden letters, so they fit on the front of your desk caddy. The wooden letters I used were 1.25 inches. Now you could use bigger wooden letters that are 1.75 inches, but your word choices maybe limited due to their larger size. So it's just something to keep in mind, while you're making this project.

- Wood Craft 2-Slot Desk Caddy
- Wooden Letters (these letters would work great!)
- Scrapbooking Paper (I used paper by Amy Tangerine)
- Martha Stewart Satin Paint (I used Mint and Raspberry Ice)
- Mod Podge (I used the gloss finish)
- Foam Brush
- Craft Knife
Once you're happy with your chosen word, paint each letter. Then set them aside to dry.
When your letters are dry, apply some Mod Podge to each letter and adhere them to your scrapbook paper. Then (using your craft knife) cut around each letter, so you're left with a nice paper pattern on the front of each letter.
Apply another coat of Mod Podge to seal in the paper, then set your letters aside to dry.
While your letters are drying, paint your desk caddy inside and out. When you're happy with how it looks, set it aside to dry.
Now grab your letters and glue them down to your desk caddy with some E6000. Once your letters are glued down, set the whole thing aside to dry.
When your letters are dry, you're ready to start using your new desk caddy!
I loved how this inspiring desk caddy turned out! It will be a nice way to get organize, but still be a reminder of what I want to accomplish in the New Year.
What word would you pick to describe your goals for the new year?
