DIY Blue Statement Necklace and Earrings

Posted by Meghan Quinones

I think I really must have an obsession with the color blue. No, really. I always seem to be drawn to the color blue when I am creating, whether it be light blue, navy, or turquoise. I always seem to pick blue paints, papers, fabrics, you name it! So, naturally, when I saw we were running the flat back beads from Blue Mean Beads, I picked up beads in all blue hues. I told you, I have a blue problem!

The necklace I created is made up of the Blue Moon beads. All I did was use jump rings to link all of my beads together and add a chain and clasp. So easy!!! This necklace is perfect for anyone who wants to try their hand at making their own jewelry. This statement necklace and matching earrings can be whipped up in no time! Oh, wait. I just realized the connecters are from Blue Moon Beads. The obsession continues...

Here's what you'll need:

  • Blue Moon Bead Turquoise Beads
  • 2 Blue Moon Bead Cobalt Beads
  • 10 Jump Rings
  • Clasp
  • Chain
  • Jewelry Pliers
  • 2 Earwires

Let's get crafty!

Arrange your beads. For my design I did a large bead followed by a small bead.

Use your pliers to open of your jump rings. Then, slide it through the top loop on your top right large bead.

Add a jump ring to the bottom loop in your large bead and slide one of your dark beads onto the other end of your jump ring.

Continue adding jump rings, linking your beads together.

Continue linking your beads until all them are linked.

Open the top jump ring and slide on one end of your chain.

Hold your chain around your neck and decide on your desired length. Open the link in your chain to shorten it. Then, open the end jump ring on your large bead and slide the last link of your chain on.

Find the center of your chain. Remove the center link.

Add your clasp to the ends of your chain.

Now, let's make a quick pair of earrings!
