Hi there everyone! Laurel Beard here with you today to show you just how fun AND EASY it is to create stunning background pieces using the Just Add Watercolor paper pads and whatever watercolors you have! Today, I am using Distress Inks and the Distress Ink reinkers (to show the variation of intensity using the same colors). I have these backgrounds ready to go for whatever project I may need them for. A card base, a framed piece of art, etc... I can just add a sentiment or word die cuts and I'm good to go!
To create these backgrounds, you will need:
Just Add Watercolor Paper Pack
Distress Ink (Blueprint Sketch, Mermaid Lagoon, Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet)
Distress Ink Reinkers (Blueprint Sketch, Mermaid Lagoon, Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet)
Craft Mat (The Best Ever Craft Mat or the Ranger Craft Mat)
I chose to use this design. All of the papers in the pads have designs that will "resist" any watercolor you put down. Some of the images have gold foiling on them too! All the designs on the paper will resist any watercolor you put down. So pretty!
To begin, I cut down the panel so I could make several background at once.
Apply of wash of clean water over the background of the panel prior to adding any of your watercolor.
For the distress inks, I took the pads and pressed them onto my craft sheet to create my palette. Then I used a paint brush, picked up the color and painted them onto the paper.
For the reinkers, I added a couple of drops onto the paper (again, I applied a wash of clean water prior to adding the watercolor) and then spread it around with my paintbrush
I love using the same colors, but different mediums to get different intensities. The reinkers are VERY pigmented so you don't need a lot!
And just like that, you've got backgrounds ready to go!!!! I love the gold foil shining through! I'll probably turn a few of them into cards and others I might frame for my kids rooms (hence why I chose those particular color schemes, ha ha).... I love having things made in advance. It makes pulling together a project super duper easy! I also have colored images in a bowl on my desk to use when needed as well. It really does save a lot of time!!!! Have an awesome day!!!!!
