DIY A Stuffed Shark Fin for Your Dog
Include your dogs in the Shark Week obsessing by creating them their very own wearable shark fin!
To kick off Shark Week here at Blitsy, I decided it only made sense to include the dogs. I mean, they are a huge part of our office after all!
When I was thinking about Shark Week and some of the shark related projects I wanted to do, the first one that came to mind was stuffed shark fins for the dogs! The visual I had of Molly wearing a fin around the office was not only adorable, but also totally amusing. The thought of her running around the office (with all of her never-ending energy) as if she was a shark, made me laugh out loud!
This little stuffed fin can be made with no sewing at all. That's right, your entertainment is more attainable than you thought! I sewed part of my fin and hot glued the rest of it. You could, however, hot glue the entire thing! So, this project is great for all crafty skill levels.
What are you waiting for? Time to craft up a shark fin for your cute little four legged friend. Oh, and make sure you watch the video below of our ferocious office shark! :)
Here's what you'll need:
- 2 Gray Felt Sheets
- Shark Template (you can free hand it or print one off the internet)
- Thread and Needle (or Sewing Machine)
- Sticky Back Velcro
- Glue Gun and Glue (optional)
Let's get crafty!
Lay one felt sheet on top of the other felt sheet. Trace your shark fin template on your top piece of felt. Cut out your fin. You will have two matching fins.
Turn the outside of your felt in so the nice sides are facing in. Then, either hand sew or use a sewing machine to sew your two fins together. Make sure you leave 1/8 inch seam allowance. You will leave the bottom of your fin unsewn.
Turn your fin right side out and stuff it with batting.
Trace the bottom of your fin on your extra felt and cut it out. You can either sew the bottom to your fin, or just glue it. I just glued it. :)
Wrap your elastic around your dog to get the right length. Once you have the right length, cut it and glue it to the bottom of your fin (I was going to use to pieces of elastic, but one ended up being perfect.
Cut your velcro and stick it to the ends of your elastic.
