Creating a Scrapbook Layout With Hidden Journaling

Posted by Kate Kennedy

Whether you are looking to preserve the design of your project or keep some of the story private, hidden journaling is the perfect way to just that.

Hey guys, Kate Kennedy here to share a video tutorial focusing on hidden journaling. There are several reasons why one would not want the journaling on a layout or project to be front and center. For me it is usually either one of two things.

Design - I want to keep a clean and simple look to the project or there is so much going on that I don’t want the journaling to get lost on the page, and sometimes, there just isn’t space for the journaling.

Storytelling - There are often times when I have a long story to tell. When someone looks at my Project Life or Scrapbook Album, they may just be skimming through and not necessarily looking to read the whole story. Also, there are times when I would prefer someone not read the whole story so tucking the journaling behind some layers or putting it on the back of the project are perfect for those circumstances.

For this particular layout, I wanted to include the lyrics to the song from the first dance of our wedding reception. I also created a clean design and didn’t want all those words taking up too much space. I opted to pull out my typewriter and the lyrics to a shipping label. I was also able to tell a bit about the photo and then tuck in away behind the layers using a glassine bag.

I left a bit of the bag and tag showing and added some bakers twine so anyone viewing this layout would know to pull out the tag to see the journaling.
