Before stamping and heat embossing, I like to brush either a chalk pouch or some powder over the area. This stops the excess embossing powder from sticking to areas it shouldn't. The card panel I am using is 3.75 x 5 inches. The final card base will be 4.25 x 11, scored at the 5.5, creating a standard A2 sized card (top folding).
Since I wasn't set on a layout for this card, I laid down the stamps a few different ways on the front panel before inking them up and stamping them. This is a great benefit of clear stamps; move them around on a card before stamping so you can see what the final layout will be!
Once you are happy with your layout (see above for the one I chose), ink up the stamps with VersaMark watermark ink and stamp them. Cover with gold embossing powder and then use a heat gun to activate the powder. The final result is awesome! It's like raised, liquid gold on your card panel!
To create even more shimmer, I colored in the iced coffee cup with Sparkle pens. These pens are really amazing! You can create depth and shadows by blending with other Sparkle pens or just layering the same color on top of itself several times. They can also be used like a waterbrush, to blend watercolors or watercolor pencils!
I wanted to create some subtle color changes, so I layered the Smoked Quartz on top of itself several times, letting it dry each round before coloring again. Then I colored in the straw and the edge of the cup, using the same process.
I decided I also wanted some shimmery splatters, so I squeezed the Moonstone pen as I flicked it and got some fantastic sparkle! I did lighten them up a bit using a paper towel. I wanted them more in the background, not the star, and these pens can be really vibrant. So, by using a paper towel, the colors became more muted.
I trimmed a piece of patterned paper and adhered it to my card base and added the front panel using 3D foam squares. To finish off the card, I added some green sequins with small Zots.
This is the perfect card for any coffee lover in your life! The extra sheen from the gold embossing powder paired with sparkle pens really makes this card stand out.
